A Welcomed Distraction

When I was just about to write how glum my day seemed, a bird crashed into my house.

Misguided in her flight, I wondered: Had she too much on her mind?

Following three days of rain and wind, is her nest in need of repair?

Are her little chick’s all right?

I was wishing for a distraction from a

pessimistic state.

Yet, I meant no harm

when the feathered friend startled me

with her knock against my siding.

I did not wish to ruffle any feathers

all I sought was refuge from my own darkened views,

when that message bearing dove altered my perspective:

reminding me of Hope and Love.

It is good to remember hope and love – especially when gloominess overcomes us. I do hope you a nice day after your feathered friend left you that message. (The pigeons around here leave me lots of messages all over my car…none of them are of hope and love, so I hope you realize how lucky you are ;))
