Publishing: A New Adventure

Tomorrow is the start of my publishing workshop. Although I was an English major, in my undergraduate program we didn’t touch on the aspect of publishing. I received an email this morning asking the participants to bring with them 2 of their best articles and 2 of their worst. Well, choosing the worst is easy: great ideas with promise, yet, poorly or should I say, unprofessionally executed. It is choosing amongst the best that brings me the most difficulty. I’ve written many pieces that I am proud of but what have I written that has a place in the world of publishing? I am insecure this evening. I have one of four left to choose. I know I’ll settle on something before it is time to go. Tomorrow is another day.

I’m sure you have some wonderful work. Don’t be afraid. I’ll be interested in what you learn. I’ve had this idea bouncing around my head lately regarding publishing and the supportive community we have here. I’m trying to get it more clarified in my brain, but I will be sharing soon. Good luck and enjoy!

I hope you were able to decide which work to bring. I have so much trouble picking out what is “best” because it’s so subjective. Often the pieces I’m drawn to are nearer to my heart, but may not necessarily be the best displays of my writing.

I hope the workshop is informative!

I’ve never been so ill prepared for a class. It being a writing course I misinterpreted the assignment. She was looking for copies of articles we have read that we really like and dislike for group reading and discussion.

I’m on track now and feeling positive about the experience ahead. I wanted to thank you both for your comments and good wishes 🙂
